Customer review of the Imago 9ft #5 Fast.

About craftsmanship: first the tube, the best quality, top class, very sturdy! The rod bag, again well made and very pleasant. Then you discover the rod, first impression it’s a real fishing tool. Stealth was the aim of the builder. The blank is grey without any coating and look awesome, rings are mono ‘Rec recoil’ so the best available. The black winding with light coating adds to the stealthy look. Reel seat is beautiful, wood insert with Imago engraving is quite nice. I tested 3 different reels on this and the fitting was always very good. The joins between is section are the best I have never seen!

About weight: this rod is not the lightest of his category but when you put the reel and some line than you have the ‘action weight’ and in regard to this ‘action weight’ the Imago rod feels very light! With some (many) rods you feel a weight somewhere above the grip but not with this one.

About casting: this rod is all about feeling and the more you ask the more it give …precision is easy, you can feel the tip working with short line and flip the line at shot range with great accuracy or put more and more line in the air and the rod bend more deeply but doesn’t collapse. Let the rod do the job for you, forget it and simply concentrate on your fishing. Remember, this rod is a real fishing tool, so no pain in your hand or harm, no difficult timing to think about, no loose of feeling, delicacy and power in a smooth transition, very impressive.

About fishing: a 9 foot line 5 is not a specialized rod it’s a ‘if I had only one’ rod, so I use it till now with dry fly down to size 18, with some streamer with tungsten bead (a bit creasy) and with a couple of nymphs …and you know what,…. the rod just does it ! For short range nymphing the feeling is great, for dry fly light tippet again it’s terrific, for streamer the price of the rod made the experience a bit to frightened for me.

One important thing - which is many times forgotten-  is the capacity of a rod to fight the fish. As I fish only with barbless hook (Hanak mainly) I need a rod which can put lot of pressure on fish but keep power and reactivity in reserve because if the fish shake his head and the rod is slow to react in only a fraction second the hook can be pull free …definitively this rod is not a fish loosing rod.

Conclusion: The Imago IPT is a fishing tool, made for real fishing and for the pleasure of fishing. The look, quality, …..the complete concept is just…..well YOU JUST NEED TO CAST IT ONCE ;-)
